Dade City, Fla. – At a time when patient safety in our hospitals and health care facilities is top of mind across the globe, AdventHealth Dade City has earned a Leapfrog grade “B” for patient safety by the nationally recognized Leapfrog Group. AdventHealth acquired AdventHealth Dade City on April 1, 2018, and the hospital has worked aggressively to attain excellence in patient safety. This grade shows the hospital does a better job at protecting patients from mistakes, injuries, accidents and infections than it did prior to acquisition. The health care ratings organization announced its safety ratings for over 2,600 hospitals across the country.
“We take great pride in caring for this community and we feel called to do that through treating every patient with uncommon compassion and continuing to advance our daily services to ensure we become a top-tier community hospital,” said Jason Newmyer, Vice President of AdventHealth Dade City. “We are committed to our promise to keep our patients safe and this recognition from the Leapfrog Group inspires us to continue to push for excellence.”
Leaders at AdventHealth Dade City have continued to implement key strategies enhance patient safety, since being acquired in 2018, including:
- Implementing Tele-ICU which provides critically ill patients immediate access to critical care intensivists and nurses via tele monitoring and direct communication.
- Implementing electronic health records which allow physicians to place the patient medication orders directly into the computer and allows nurses to scan a patient’s medications prior to administering medications – which has been shown to significantly decrease medication errors to patients.
- Hiring a full-time Clinical Quality Analyst who reviews patient records daily to address any potential patient quality issues.
- Fostering a strong commitment to understanding the culture of safety with all care team members.
“This achievement speaks to our culture of safety and the unwavering dedication of our teams to keeping our patients safe each and every day, not just during a pandemic” said Dr. Robin McGuinness, Senior Executive Officer of Patient Outcomes, AdventHealth West Florida Division. “We are so proud of these scores as they reflect the hard work and dedication of our leaders, physicians and staff who consistently make patient safety a top priority.”
Patient safety is the top priority at all AdventHealth locations. This year, all participating hospitals in the West Florida Division received either an “A” or “B” grade from the Leapfrog Safety Group.
