Throughout the month of February, AdventHealth Redmond offered free blood pressure clinics and heart health seminars across Floyd County in honor of National Heart Month.
Community Outreach Director Tracy Farriba and the AdventHealth Redmond community outreach team held events at local churches, the Rome YMCA and Truett’s Chick-fil-A of Rome. The team also provided educational materials to promote heart health for both preventing and addressing cardiac emergencies.
During a Lunch and Learn event on Feb. 10 at the Rome YMCA, Chief Medical Officer Julie Barnes, MD, spoke to participants about various heart conditions and what they can do to lower their risk factors for heart disease. She also shared about recent innovations in the cardiovascular field of medicine and answered specific questions about heart care.
“I came to this event because I have a-fib and high blood pressure, and I learned about the difference between atrial fibrillation (aFib) and blood pressure. I learned about treatments, lifestyle changes, eating habits and exercise, so it was very informative. I thought it was very helpful, and I’ll continue to learn more about my health so I can take better care of myself,” said Charlotte Saxon, Rome resident.
