Looking for a primary care physician but don't know where to begin? With MyHealthKC.com, a new resource from Shawnee Mission Health (SMH), patients can find not just a doctor but the right doctor in a matter of seconds.
By visiting MyHealthKC.com, the first of its kind doctor match resource in the area, visitors will complete a 12-question survey, then based on their responses, will see a selection of primary care doctors in the SMH network who share their approach to health care, as well as personal interests, needs, and lifestyles. The site also has the ability to filter by gender, geography, and interests, which will allow consumers to connect with doctors on a level never before possible.
"To be proactive in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, everyone should have a primary care physician," said Anthony Healy, MD, a family medicine physician with Shawnee Mission Primary Care. "A primary care physician is patients first source of medical care who understands his or her complete medical history, which is key to long-term health. Plus, a primary care physician can focus on prevention and help maintain a schedule for routine tests and blood work."
With more than 70 SMH primary care doctors to choose from, patients can use their suggested matches to find the primary care doctor they trust and who shares the patient's health goals. Short introduction videos help patients get to know their doctors before the first appointment, reducing the barrier of fear patients often have of seeing a new provider. The site also includes doctor ratings and patient comments, providing a new level of transparency that will allow patients to choose the best provider for their individualized needs.
"Our hope is for MyHealthKC.com to help doctors and patients build more meaningful partnerships so that each patient feels supported and empowered in managing their health today and in years to come," said Healy.
